I ordered this to bring my best buddy/gallery director, @JustMerle with me on short walks and picnics in the small town we are in. It arrived quickly, is lightweight and folds really small and flat which is great for storage. It opens easily and is roomy enough for my chonky kitty who is probably around 12-15#. The back extension is roomy and not angled like many others. He walked right in and checked it out. The zippered areas are secure and the main one has a feature to keep him from opening the zippers. The side pockets are spacious and hold a phone, beverage, keys, money etc. There is a good mix of windows and screen areas so even on a hot day it should have plenty of ventilation. Many others I have seen have large clear window areas but not much screen areas and they often come with fans so I assume they can get pretty hot. He could stand up and lay down with plenty of room with the back extension closed. Many others available are smaller so check dimensions when shopping. I put this on in the front when I walked so I could monitor him better. It was comfortable and the straps adjusted to secure it to lessen bounce while walking. He did really well, I opened the extension when we got to the top of the hill and it was nice to have my friend with me while watching the sunset! He was calm and didn't seem like he felt trapped; he was just curious about what was around and all the sounds, birds etc. I expect on future trips he will settle and lay down or even nap.I am very happy with this product, the design, features, and quality. It has the best of just about all the various backpacks out there, all in one.Lots of people seem hesitant to get a soft sided backpack vs the spaceship type hard body versions available, but when I saw the reviews for this were just as good I ordered it and am so glad I did. You will not be disappointed if you order this! As a bonus, this can also be used for trips to the vet. They seem to prefer soft carriers rather than hard sided carriers and with this there are multiple access doors so the vet does not have to reach in for a scared cat. I will probably leave this out for him all the time to have a little hideaway of his own also.
I purchased 2 of these pet carriers for my Yorkies—one weighs 8-9 pounds (with surprisingly long legs for a Yorkie!) and the other is a petite 5 pounds. Here’s my detailed experience with both sizes:At first, I ordered 2 large bags, but the large size was too cramped for my taller Yorkie (I measured him at 16” standing but the bag was too short). His head would hit the top of the bag, and he had to bend his neck awkwardly even when the sizes said 17.4”H. I exchanged that one for the extra-large size, which fit him much better. However, the extra-large bag is quite huge on me so made it difficult to carry on my back, i’m a petite person (5 feet tall). It was prefect for my taller partner (6 feet tall), so we made it work. The large bag, on the other hand, was the perfect size for me to carry and prefect fit smaller 5-pound Yorkie. The extra large bag can fit both dogs but it was a little snug.We used these bags for our recent flight with Alaska Airlines, with upgraded premium economy seats to ensure our pups and us had extra room leg room. Here’s what we learned:Extra-Large Bag: Challenging to fit this under the seat. We had to push the narrow top in first and really squeeze it into place. Thankfully, the flight attendant didn’t mind the bag sticking out.Large Bag: This slid under the seat perfectly (also top in first), with no issues.Negative: Comfort-wise, the extra-large bag has a padding on the back bottom area that protects your lower back and buttocks, which made it more comfortable to carry. However, the large bag doesn’t have this padding, and the hard edges on the bottom could hit into your back and buttocks while walking and if you’re carrying it for a long time, it caused a little discomfort. The included mats in both bags are quite hard, but we brought along tiny blankets for added comfort during travel.Pro-tip for traveling, doesn’t hurt to ask the gate agents if you can pre-board, It’ll require extra time without feeling rush; since you need to adjust the dog and bag to lay downward. Luckily on both of our flights, the Alaska Airlines agents were very empathetic and accommodating.Overall, these carriers are well-made, loved the lock features on all the zippers for extra security, and very durable, but the sizing and comfort features are worth considering based on your travel needs. I’d highly recommend them, especially if you make a few adjustments for your fur babies’ comfort!
Had this backpack for a couple of months now and have used it at least a dozen times while hiking, camping, biking, and walking. I have 2 chihuahua puppies that equal 7.5 pounds together and they are in the backpack together. The mesh is very strong and the dogs digging at it does nothing. The plastic bubble is great to see the dogs but heats up fast in the sun. The expanding part is great! I use it often and it’s a great puppy play pen (small) for a timeframe if you can’t have them running freely (like in the campground). There are straps to reinforce stability on your back (straps around waist and chest). These straps are great and make it so the backpack doesn’t move at all while hiking and biking. I was not worried a bit. The zipper is strong and the backpack closes up flat to fit in tight areas (in the truck when camping). This backpack is well worth the money and I’m extremely happy with it..
We bought one of those little bubble window hard plastic backpack carriers for our cat years ago and it got used to take her to the vet and that's it. Total pain to transport with the weird shape and you couldn't store the thing anywhere thanks to the structure of it.We had a trip coming up and decided we needed a new way to carry both of our cats and purchased two of these. Absolutely outstanding quality. Love how it's completely collapsible to the point you could store it in a drawer or the corner of your closet, but we honestly barely collapse it at all because the cats love to jump in and live in it for a while with the back pulled out.You really can't ask much more for a cat carrier than the cat to be delighted to be in it. The mesh is strong and has stood up to a little bit of biting and scratching, but generally we have tried to be sure the cats don't do that, anyway. The straps are comfortable when carrying the cats around. With the expandable back collapsed, it works great sitting sideways as a more traditional carrier, as well. Sits up nicely in the car on roadtrips and acts as a very nice safe space compartment to ride in. The fact that it doubles as a little living space while at your destination is a huge bonus. Well worth every penny! If there had been some way that it could expand even more or that you could connect two of them to be able to get a small litter box into it and have an even larger enclosure, it would be literally perfect.
I bought this to take my cat for walks/hikes with me. She LOVES it! I left it open and fully expanded on the floor so she would get comfortable with it before taking her outside in the backpack, and she likes to lounge in the expanded part mostly.Durability:The bag is well-made all around. I let my 4 month old kitten play with the bag as rough as she wants to (and she gives it all she has). I wanted to see if she could tear it because I'd rather her do it in the safety of our home than in the woods somewhere. It's been about a month now, and I haven't noticed any tears in the mesh or elsewhere.Comfort:Very comfortable to pull over my shoulders and haul around. If you're going for a long walk, I recommend using the belt around the waist to support your lower back. I must note that, although it doesn't affect me, I think the waistband is a little short for those with a wide waist.Overall, it has been a VERY positive experience for me and kitty, and I'm so happy I bought it.UPDATE MAR 23, 2021:This has to be one of the best purchases I've made for my cat. She loves it. She still lounges in it when I leave it out - with or without the back extension popped out. Most importantly, I've haven't had any issues with the zippers, clips, stitching, or anything - not even the mesh. Honestly, the fact that there are no tears in the mesh really surprises me because when I have it all folded up, I noticed that she claws at it. She's not declawed, and although I trim her nails, I don't do it as regular as I should. The only problem I've come across, which is why I'm here, is that she has DESTROYED the bottom insert. I take full responsibility for that on behalf of my rambunctious cat. She was often biting and clawing at it, and it has taken its toll. Now I'm looking for another... bottom insert, not cat. I've been using the carrier without the bottom insert, which surprisingly still works. She's about 10-12 lbs/4.5 - 5.5 kgs, and the bottom of the carrier sags just a little, but not significantly. Don't know how it would hold up if she were heavier though.I still highly recommend this carrier backpack.LAST UPDATE JUL 15,2022Reached out to the company about the bottom insert, and they replaced it no questions asked. The backpack is still my cat’s haven, mesh is still intact, and everything functions without issue. LOVE IT!!
